Kiwanis House
Kiwanis House is a transitional residential program for young men who want to prepare themselves to live independently.
It provides a stable supportive environment where participants are able to identify areas for growth and build on their personal strengths. Life-skills training and support assists youth in making the transition to independent living.

Admission Criteria
To be eligible for the program you must:

Be a male youth aged 16-19
-
Require a stable living environment
-
Require lifeskills and/or interpersonal skills support
-
Be committed to participating in the program

Be motivated to work toward goals for personal growth and change
Program Overview
This is a voluntary program and the maximum length of stay is 11 months. Participants are provided the opportunity to improve lifeskills and develop their sense of responsibility and self-confidence.
Program objectives are addressed through:

meeting daily expectations

individual lifeskills support and goal setting

individual and group leisure activities
-
lifeskills/discovery group
-
resident concerns meeting
-
household tasks
-
residential living focusing on self-awareness and respect
-
involvement in the community
-
preparation and transition to independent living
Participants review their goals and progress weekly. Converence meetings occur regularly with each individual and the people that support them.
Program Funding
This residential program is funded by:

The Ministry of Community and Social Services of the Province of Ontario.

Individuals, churches, service clubs and businesses, through donations to House of Friendship.

Participants on social assistance pay monthly rent and program fees. Those who have other income sources are charged rent and program fees based on their income.

Kiwanis House was established in 1986 and is a residential program of House of Friendship.

House of Friendship is a Christian non-profit human service agency founded in 1939.

The property is owned by the Kitchener-Waterloo and Twin City Kiwanis Clubs who have generously made it available for the use of the program.
