Christmas Hamper Program
The Christmas Food Hamper Program offers a gift of food for people in need at Christmas. The hamper includes non-perishable food items as well as a small gift certificate to a local supermarket. The certificate is intended to assist the recipient to purchase meat or dairy products. The hampers are coordinated through the Christmas Bureau, an ad hoc organization operated jointly by House of Friendship and Salvation Army. Each November and December it coordinates Christmas gift giving to less fortunate members of our Kitchener-Waterloo community. Salvation Army is the primary distributor of toys while House of Friendship is the primary distributor of food. The hampers are packed and distributed from a local warehouse in December. This program is able to operate only on the strength of generous donations of money, volunteer labor, food and toys.
