Volunteers are valued at House of Friendship and are essential to help staff provide quality service to program participants. Hundreds of volunteers contribute more than 45,000 hours of volunteer time each year. Typical volunteer opportunities are listed below. Family Services

Live & Learn Program

  • Assisting with child care
  • Driving program participants to group meetings

Courtland-Shelley Community Centre

  • Assisting with ESL Pre-school
  • Facilitating After-School clubs and programs
  • Tutoring computer and internet skills
  • Facilitating youth or pre-teen groups
  • Assisting with Summer Playground activities
  • Maintenance and repairs at the centre

Chandler-Mowat Community Centre

  • Assisting with After-School programs
  • Assisting with ESL Pre-school
  • Tutoring computer and internet skills
  • Facilitating youth and pre-teen groups
  • Assisting with Summer Playground activities

Kingsdale Community Centre

  • Kingsdale has specific needs at various times of the year. Contact the Volunteer Coodinator for details

Summer Camp Sponsorship

  • Driving children to and from summer camp (summer week-ends only)

Community Services

Emergency Food Hamper Program (Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm)

  • Sorting and packing food items
  • Cleaning and organizing
  • Delivering food hampers
  • Assisting with special projects

Christmas Hamper Program (December only)

  • Setting up the warehouse
  • Sorting and packing food items
  • Delivering food hampers

Residential Services

Charles Street Men's Hostel

  • Facilitating recreation room activities
  • Assisting with chapel services
  • Assisting kitchen staff with meal preparation
  • Cleaning

Kiwanis House

  • Facilitating recreational activities
  • Tutoring life-skills
  • Assisting with research
  • Indoor/outdoor maintenance

Cramer House

  • Cramer House has specific needs at various times of the year. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator for details
